Artist started a very interesting thread on the support forum:

http://rosacea-support.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=363&sid=182fcddc6b1afa2d52bb64b6998acc4d

I dont have time to add anything else but I suggest you go and look at the thread.

Pyrithione Zinc is the active ingredient in Head and Shoulders, which is made by... Proctor and Gamble of course! So not really sure any of this is new really, but still a good read. I wonder if we can get Pyrithione Zinc ointment made up at the chemist?

Oh - why?? Because of the zillion other ingredients in it, or...?

yes it's full of nasty ingredients. I'm not even sure it's that good for our scalps, especially when our skin has problems elsewhere. The condition of the scalp and face are connected and I've heard of people washing their hair with a shampoo and it causing breakouts on the face. I think I'll start another thread to see what shampoo's people use.

Hi gang! My surge of interest in seb derm led me to this sensitive skin rosacea cleanser with pyrithione zinc:

http://www.dermadoctor.com/product.asp?productid=1527&AID=15750

"2% pyrithione zinc containing dandruff shampoos are frequently used by dermatologists as an “off label” (not officially FDA approved use) treatment for helping control other conditions such as acne rosacea, tinea versicolor, perioral dermatitits, psoriasis and eczema."

I have no affiliation with the company. I was excited to find an alternative to putting shampoo on our faces.

I ordered it and am going to try it.

Cheers!

Do tell when you've tried it.

Its got pretty good reviews on makeupalley.

The only thing concerning me is the sodium laureth sulphate. (Is there a laurel/laureth distinction). Its known to be a bit of a stripper...

I use head & shoulders on my face... works fine. Seb derm is just dandruff of the face.

Will do!

The laureth is the gentler one, but I'd be happiest if they had used decyl glucoside, which is super mild. I am thinking my skin can probably tolerate this, and even the Head & Shoulders, as a treatment wash two or three times a week.

Cheers!

I'm gonna try this head and shoulders thing too. My skin has flared up recently.

I tried washing my face with H&S last night and it didn't irritate it at all. The flaking has gone down quite a bit and doesn't seem as red. Only early days though, I'll see how it goes.

This sounds interesting about using H&S on the face. I will have to get a small travel size of the stuff to try it out since I only have t gel in the house and the john freda stuff.

I decided not to color my hair and instead go back to highlighting and chickened out in doing it this weekend since my son is sick and my face was irritated. Past times I did my haircoloring my forehead got better after all that stuff on my scalp and it always helps me nasal passages.

Washed with H&S again, redness is still declining and flaking down quite a bit. I hope it can sustain this - I'd be thrilled with such a simple solution.
