I dont usually eat after my evening meal (5.30pm) as I usually spend the evening trying to hold off a flush. However, I do flush eventually whatever I do. So I'm thinking, sod it! I might as well eat something in the evening...
do you guys eat in the evening? if so, what, just out of interest Very Happy

I tend to perhaps have a slice of wholemeal toast or maybe some nuts or even ready salted crisps. For me evenings aren't too bad, the worst time for me is the afternoon.

I eat pretty much anything because its likely I will be flushing soon anyways (because it is winter). If its something warm and fried, I probably wont eat it. Thats pretty much my only rule. Also I avoid sugary and spicy food to some extend. I had pizza last night Very Happy ... with a salad of course and an apple.

ice cream is a good idea Very Happy
I've been trying to find a good vegan ice cream for ages. The UK is poor for specialist stuff like that. I've made my own and it was ok, but nothing like the real thing.

How about frozen yoghurt instead. You should be able to find this in the bigger/posher supermarkets.

wow look at all those flavours! Very Happy
Nothing like that over here.

I make it more difficult for myself by not eating dairy or anything with added sugar. Most dairy-free ice creams I can find all have sugar in.
I did find a website for Oat Supreme Lite
http://www.first-foods.com/icecreamlite.htm

its ice cream made from oats, no sugar, no dairy, gm or wheat. It's also made in the UK... except it isn't. I emailed them and got this reply:

Quote:
Although we mention ice cream on our milk and cream cartons, we have not been able to supply it since our ice cream packer recently went out of business. We have been exploring how we can get fresh ice cream mix from our factory to someone with the technical capability of producing none-dairy ice cream and it is proving very difficult. Our production site is in Northern Ireland and the nearest ice cream factory with specialist equipment is in Belgium. Our ice cream mix needs to be shipped chilled and needs to be used within 4 days at the moment non company will guarantee being able to do it.
We are daily looking into ways we can get back into the business.

what a shame!

That always seems to happen when I find a product that I love.
My husband says it's uncanny LOL, but whenever I find something that is amazing...BAM...it goes out of business OR it's on backorder for so long that for all practical purposes it's unavailable.

However, I always find a substitute. So Flemmo, my fingers are crossed that you will find a good substitute. We have something here called Tofutti that I think is dairy and sugar free (but I'm not sure). Anyway, maybe you have something over in the UK that is like that.
http://www.tofutti.com/

I only tried it once and I wasn't crazy about it but I have friends that are addicted to the stuff Very Happy so you might love it too.

Hope you find a good ice cream substitute soon!
It's my one sure way of stopping a flush dead in its tracks!!

Best wishes,
Melissa

thanks Melissa. So many companies are missing out on big money by not catering for those with allergies, intolerances, alternative living etc

The UK does have some Tofutti products but only a limited range and so far I haven't seen the no sugar variety. I'll keep searching the web though Wink

thats a good suggestion. Though sorbet's are normally full of added sugar and fruit/fructose, but maybe sugar-free ones exist? Google here I come Laughing

No sugar and no dairy, Flemmo?! Is life not grim enough!

Ice cream is a capital choice. As I understand it (based on a cursory reading of a hazily scientific chapter in one of those books advocating low carb diets ( the 'Zone Diet' or something?)) the fat content in the cream buffers the release of glucose into the system. Thus, ice cream ( so the theory goes), while being very sweet, is perhaps less harmful for us (in the short term at least) than other stuff packed with sugars.

I like this theory very much and test it out most nights. Very Happy
