Having just moved offices i have come to realize that fluorescent lights are a trigger of mine. This is made all the more worrying as incandescent lighting is being phased out in the UK by 2011.

So I am thinking that it will be a good idea to find suitable alternatives that people can ask for.

So with this in mind I am hoping that someone on the forum perhaps knows abit about lighting and wavelengths and can help with my questions:

A) why does the wavelength given off florescent lights cause skin problems?

B) Is their a special fluorescent light that is made for people with light sensitive conditions?

C) is there some sort of filter that can be placed over florescent lights?

D) I can get access to coloured filters that are used in the threatre, will these do the trick?

Any help gratefully received Very Happy

Sarah

I wonder if you could use LED lights for home/office use?

I am sort of struggling with this. I have no idea about lighting. I wonder if LED's can be used at work?

So far I have managed to keep the fluorescent off for the last week and use a desk lamp (incandescent light) instead and my skin has improved quite significantly-much less red and no flushing.

However my colleague made it clear that in the long term she would prefer an overhead light.

Have you ever come across charts where it compares the various wavelengths given off by the different types of lighting? Sometimes I find the internet so frustrating, I don't seem to be typing in the right phases.

I have found this article but I cant view it as I don't have membership

LEDs should not affect you the same as flourescent.

Here's a link to show you what is available and there's info on the site which may be useful:

I think these are better for the environment too.

Good luck with this. I am all for going green but I have no desire to suffer for it. Sad

Nice charts that compare the wavelengths of various types of light

http://www.naturalux.com/NaturaLux_Lighting_Filters_Comparison.htm

So I am thinking that if I can get a filter/tube that blocks out wavelengths lower?? than 380nm I should be okay. Then perhaps something like a LED spot lamp for the desk.
