Thought it would be good to have a thread of positive messages and encouragement.
If anyone has any good quotes or anecdotes or positive sound bites let's share them.

When I go out and look at people I notice that loads of people have red skin, bumpy skin and spots. It's really quite common.
I think people often tend to think they look worse than they do. _________________ dx early 2006.

Moomy,
Appreciate where you are coming from but I am having a rotten couple of days so this is the best I can come up with;
"Rosacea, at least it's not cancer."
That's about the most positive thing I can come up with today!

The trick is to keep moving forward
to let go of the fear and the regret
that slows us down and keeps us from
enjoying a journey that will be over all too soon. _________________ Do what you feel in your heart to be right, for you'll be criticized anyway. You'll be damned if you do, and damned if you don't. – Eleanor Roosevelt |

I'm sorry you're having a rotten time right now, but I had to laugh at your post. That's what my husband says to me all the time- it's just skin, it's not going to kill you. I know he's right. Just think about all of the other people in the world suffering from far worse. I know it doesn't really make *you* feel any better, but it really could be a lot worse.
Hope you feel better soon,
~J |

Don't let your rosacea define the GOD given value you have as a human being....loved, and precious in his sight. _________________ Dx 1998

It really helps give me perspective. I've got it taped inside my medicine cabinet door so I see it everyday.
I heard the other day (I can't recall where) to think of your life like a song. That touched me and I want my song to be happy.
Big hugs!

We can be an inspiration, people may think 'well if they're happy and confident looking like that then what's stopping us?'

"The mind is it's own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven" (Milton Satan)

I have this great book called 'what to say when you talk to yourself' by Shad Helmstetter. The idea is that self talk makes a big difference to how you feel about your life.
here are a couple of his ideas for positive self talk..
'I do not worry. I am in control of my own thinking and I think only those thoughts which create and fulfill the best in me.'
'My mind dwells only on those thoughts which create more harmony, balance, and well-being within me and in the world around me.'
'My mind is constantly in tune with the positive. It is bright, cheerful, enthusiastic, and full of good, positive thoughts and ideas.'

Thanks, Moomy - I'd never thought of it like that.
But funnily enough I have a neighbour who fits in with what you said: she has quite severe rosacea but doesn't wear make-up or try to cover it up - she seems completely at ease with herself. I told her the other day that I'd been diagnosed and we had a chat about it, and she very much took the view that, yes, it's a pain, but it could be so much worse. And she has actually had to cope with so much worse fairly recently, including bereavement. And the truth is that when people talk about her, they don't seem to notice her skin - they always refer to her qualities as a person and friend.
Considering how anxious, miserable and downright obsessed I seem to
have become in a short time about rosacea, I thought she was amazing!
Wonderful idea for a thread, too - thankyou.

In difficult times, moments of self-doubt, a slightly revised version of Romans 8:31 can do magical things for a heavy heart:
'If God be for me, who can be against me?'
I can think of no other collection of words (in the English language) so potent and nourishing. (Note the very simple language. Beware of those with sesquipedalian inclinations for they truly have nothing to say ).
This works if you are (like me) irreligious. 'God' may be natural justice or a collection of humanist moral principles. Whatever.
And, if you are a little sentimental, just sometimes 'God' may be this collection of folk hereabouts who understand your suffering and wish you the best at all times.
'If David and Jen and Melissa and Sarah and Corinna and Fut and Scrumptious and Claudia and Francois and Aurelia and Peter and Steve and Moomy and Rob and Kristina and Sdavis and J and Drums and Marpusbean and Artist and Jenn and Toadstool and Flemmo and Natalja and Ewist and Ann and Millie are for me, then who can be against me?' |

There are so many great and inspiring quotes/sayings that I don't know where to begin but here is one of my favorites:
Lao-Tse:
Kindness in words creates confidence.
Kindness in thinking creates profundity.
Kindness in giving creates love. |
