I'm 17, female, and my redness, flushing, and pimples have just been diagnosed as Rosacea and Acne Rosacea. Two months ago, this all started as flushing whenever my skin would get too sensitive from the acne products I was using. Two months ago, however, I started breaking out in lots of little, persistent pauples and pustles. Two weeks ago, my face also started getting redder, and it flushes like crazy. I always feel kind of warm in that area.

Here is the regimen I've started today:

MORNING
- Prascion Cleanser (generic for Plexion Cleaser... sodium sulfacetamide 10% and sulfur 5%)
- Oracea pill on empty stomach (Doxycycline)

EVENING
- Prascion Cleanser
- Duac gel (Clindamycin 1%, Benzoyl Peroxide 5%)

It's evening, and I've cleansed my face with Prascion and have just now applied Duac. My face feels kind of tight, peely, and it burns the slightest bit. My eighteenth birthday is in two months, so I'd really like to see some improvement in this... Especially the redness. The ingredients in the cleanser are supposed to be very good in reducing the inflammation in my facial veins and capillaries, thus reducing redness. I'm afraid that both the cleanser twice a day and the Duac gel once a day might only aggravate the redness and inflammation, even if it'd help the pimples. I figure if I feel any burning, even slight, in that area, then it must only be aggravating the irritation, right?

I haven't been leaving the house at all because of this, it's really getting me bummed out. My biggest concern is getting rid of the inflammation in my veins and capillaries before I start to get the spider-vein effect. I know the Oracea is only supposed to help the pimples, not the redness. Do you think the Prascion Cleanser and the Clindamycin in Duac would help with the redness?

Also, I have a bottle of just Cindamycin 1% lotion from November or December that I never finished. If the BP in Duac is too aggravating at times, should I use just the plain Clindamycin to improve the redness? Am I correct in thinking that the antibiotic properties of Clindamycin would reduce the inflammation in my veins/capillaries that's causing the redness?

I know this is long, I just want to make sure I'm not aggravating things... Thanks.

I've been hearing a lot about how BP can only aggravate redness and inflammation... Should I keep using Duac at night or replace it with plain Clindamycin 1% lotion instead? Would Clindamycin help redness/flushing? Thanks.

Hi Lauren,

Welcome to the Forum.
A friend of mine has said that you shoud stay away from the Duac gel as it has BP which will aggravate our sensitive rosacea skin. The Dalacin T lotion is a better choice but may not help redness and flushing.

Treat your skin gently with aminimum of products and make sure you moisturize well. There are many treatments that can help control your rosacea and it is just a matter of trial and error in finding what works best for you. Take a read through the pertinent threads and try one thing at a time if possible and with new topicals always do a patch test. Best of luck!

Best wishes,
Melissa

Thanks for the info, Melissa! I'll switch to Clindamycin and see whether the bumps and redness improve.

You're welcome Lauren.
Don't worry because you are being proactive at an early stage and so you should be able to hold back the progression and get it under control. It can feel overwhelming at times but you're not alone so hang in there!

Best wishes,
Melissa

For the past two days, I've been getting breakouts in weird areas. Instead of staying in the middle of my face, these small breakouts are happenings along the sides of my face. I even got one in the corner of my mouth, on my actual lip, which has never happened to me before.

I haven't been using Prascion cleanser for three days, as my skin is very dry and peeling. I was going to wait until all the dry skin peels off over the next few days before continuing Prascion once a day. Since I haven't been using Prascion recently, I don't think the breakouts could be caused by that.

I HAVE been moisturizing a lot the past few days to counteract the dryness, which could be causing the breakouts. That seems most logical... though I don't know how I'd of gotten a pimple on my bottom lip. It's possible I got moisturizer there, though. I don't think it's the Oracea or my Rosacea worsening that's causing this, though I could be wrong.

Since I've dropped Duac, I applied 1% Clindamycin lotion just now to my whole face. If things go well, it'll help reduce inflammation and speed up the process of getting these zits taken care in conjunction with Oracea. Hopefully stopping the moisturizer, starting Clindamycin, and keeping up with Oracea will finally show some improvement in these pimples...

Sorry about this post, it was mostly used to get things in perspective for me. I'm going to first try to reduce inflammation and get rid of these bumps... Then I'll probably ask my derm what kind of options I have for whatever redness there is and for my flushing. I hate having to take steps back.
