Hi
I am 5 weeks off long term (2 years) low dose Accutane, I am currently waiting to have IPL. My P & P's have returned already on my cheeks and forehead. They are only little papules but there is about 5 on each cheek at any one time, My Derm gave me erythromycin which I think is doing nothing. I also have Metrocream but I am reluctant to use it as my skin always seems to react badly to topicals.
My question is, what is the best oral product to take to help control P&Ps?
Thanks

Hi Beama,
I like Solodyn (minocycline 45 mg) and many people have had success with Oracea (timed released doxycycline 40 mg). Those would be your 2 best orals to try. Try only one of course
Good luck!

| Ditto on the Solodyn (the generic name is "minocycline"). I take 100mg per day. |

Thanks, I will make an appointment with my Derm tomorrow and see if he will prescribe Doxy or Mino. Have you guys tried erythromycin before? It seems to be doing nothing and as the Accutane has worn off the spots a gradually appearing more and more each day. IPL is meant to help with this, I hope so!

Hi Beama,
I would ask for the lowest dose because while it may take longer to clear you it would be easier to take for a longer period of time (IMO). Good luck and keep us posted.
Best wishes,

Hi
Just a query, does anyone use a Benzoyl Peroxide cream to help reduce their P & Ps? In the past I have used it in small amounts with quite good success but now that I know alot more about rosacea I have heard that Benzoyl Peroxide aggravates it.
Thanks

Hi Beama,
I don't know about BP except for the fact that some people have had bad reactions to it. But I guess if you use a tiny amount to spot treat the P&P's based on the fact that it has helped you in the past and see what happens. Have you tried Finacea or one of the metros (gel, cream, lotion)? I am using Finacea for spot treating now and am not sure if it is working or not but many people here are using it and liking it a lot.

In conjunction with an oral like Oracea it seems to have an even greater success rate with P&P's.
Best wishes,

Beama,
I have been on erythromycin for 2 months now. My personal experience is that tetracycline(I saw result in 1.5 weeks) worked more effectively than erythromycin(saw result in 4 weeks) in terms of reducing inflammation/redness and suppressing pimples.
Too bad I had fever reaction to tetracycline so my derm asked me to switch to erythromycin. But erythromycin does work eventually.

Ok so I just saw my Derms nurse, explained how I was unhappy with the P&Ps I have been getting. Her response was my skin was looking very good and the spots were very minor. , she suggested I use some Metrocream to help.
She said to continue with the erythromycin for 3 more weeks which will make it 2 months on it and then to come back and see her to evaluate things and possibly getting another prescription for erythromycin.
We then talked about IPL, now bear in mind I am only 5 weeks off Accutane.
She suggested I can get the IPL done right now, I was kind of shocked as everything I have read says to wait 6 months. Anyhow, she explained how they treat people regularly who are on Accutane at the same time as getting IPL, so in the end I got a small test area done near where my side burn would be.
To my surprise the IPL is a rather hot zap. After the IPL was done the area felt tingly and warm but when I looked in the mirror you couldn't even tell anything had been done.
The nurse wanted to book m into do my first full face IPL in 4 weeks, but I am away on holiday then so we booked it for 2 months time around mid April.
I would love to hear some thoughts from fellow IPL treated members on my expereince today.
Thanks
Beama |
