I wasn't sure where to post this, since hormone replacement therapy can be both oral, topical, RX and nonRX (moderators please feel free to move).
I am planning on trying hrt again soon and am wondering what others have tried that seem to work best for hormonal flushinghot flashes. I've tried nonRX progesterone cream (didn't work for me) and the Climara patch (bioidentical) (caused side effects). Would even consider going on Premarin at least temporarily, if it worked.
What have others used and what was your experience. Would really appreciate some feedback.
Thanks.

After close to 20 years of trying everything since hitting menopause in my mid 20s, I finally gave up and went on Premarin about 6 months ago. Just the .3 mg and I am so glad I did and regret not doing it sooner. I sleep better, my skin is better and I no longer have hot flashes -- which I had always thought were supposed to disappear on their own!
Good luck!

There is a thread somewhere here on the board by Irishgenes talking all about this topic it could be helpful for you.
Did you ever have your hormone levels tested? That can also help to know which is low. My doc put me on progesterone cream and never tested me and that was a big mistake....made my rosacea worse for sure...I later had my P tested and it is acutally just over the top of the range! so I was way out of balance. I am not in meno...I am 43....and I am noticing all kinds of hormone stuff going on....it is for sure messing with my rosacea. I am going to look into BCP's next...that way I can take these right thru the "hot flash" phase coming up and then switch to either natural bio's.....just thinking of uncontrollable hot flushing from hormones terrifies me, really I think being pre-emptive in our treatment before it gets going is gonna be key. _________________ Dx 1998

Lookout, no I have not had my hormone levels tested, even though I've tried. My doctor at the time said it's not necessary since hormone levels are always fluncuating, so she wouldn't do it. Yet my period stopped about a year and a half ago and my FSH levels were very high, which is an indication that you are in menapause.
Mellissa, thanks for the link. I have read that thread, but will reread it. |
