I dug out my RLT...it's the small tabletop one with infared light in combo with red light. I did it for 5mins and amazingly my face was pale right afterward...for about 1min.
I just had IPL 8days ago and am having a hell of a time with the post recovery....seems like my face is very aggravated....possibly SD flare too. I have never been diagnosised with SD but I think I have a form of it just the same.
I was wondering....since I had a positive result using my RLT could I do it every hour or so for 5mins today to see if it helps me calm down?
I am feeling abit desperate as I felt better yesterday until the afternoon and then my face has been burning/stinging again and I can't seem to figure out what caused the set back for sure.
What do you all think?
edit: I should say the one I have has near infrared, I think? _________________ Dx 1998

Hi Darlene,
I think it's a good aid for recovery from IPL for sure but I would take it a bit slower. I would break it down to two 10 min sessions/day as long as you are having no adverse effects. You can build it up from there if you'd like after the first 2 weeks or so. I wouldn't do too much too fast though. Gradual and more conservative seems a better choice IMO. Good luck!

Update...I have been doing my RLT 2xper day for 9mins w/o any adverse reactions. The resutls are the same....after a session my face is "pale" no visible redness which is really somethin'! But after about 1-2mins it starts to come back....and during this time I gently patt in my lotion....but so far soooooo good!! _________________ Dx 1998

Imagine, within a few months, it might just be that this paleness which is now transient becomes permanent! Let us hope..
Anyways - and this is a general observation that your post has prompted me to raise - I've noticed that a few people seem transfixed with the treatment durations stipulated in the literature that accompanies their respective RLT devices (the DPL folk suggest 9 mins, I think).
I will say, without fear of contradiction, that these durations will have been pretty much plucked out of thin air. There is no theory, no empirical evidence that says 9 mins is better than 10mins (or indeed eight).
So go with what seems appropriate for you. With caution in mind initial treatments might last five mins; as a veteran you may choose to spend whole evenings bathed in light... |

I am finding that now I am doing 20 min a day (at Corinna's suggestion) I feel like I am making more of an improvement. So, once you do a few weeks at this beginning time and you have no adverse effects you can build up to even more time and hopefully notice big improvements.
Good luck Darlene!
Best wishes,
