I have extremely sensitive skin and I have sed derm...I also burn VERY easily on my face. My old derm recommended Vanicream Sunblock SPF 60. I used it this past summer and had no problems. It can be kinda of expensive, but there is a website that sells it for cheaper than what you will find else where. If I can find the website I will let you know.

Hope that helps!

XOXO

I've heard good things about California Baby (I think it's called) but haven't used it myself. This will be my first summer needing something for extremely sensitive skin. Before that I was fine with Coppertone Faces.

I was going to use Aveeno, but saw the first ingredient is BHT, so I'm going to try to stay away from that and try the California Baby.

I also love vanicream spf 60 for sensitive skin. Only problem is that it's difficult to remove but it never causes me to get irritated or breakout. I used it all summer long and I was outside bicycling long distances much of the summer and it protected me. So I definitely recommend it with the caveat that you will not be able to remove it all when you wash your face.

I buy it from drugstore.com and it comes pretty fast.

Hi Melissa,

Does Vanicream leave your skin shiney? I'm looking for a good mattifying sunscreen.

Hi Flemmo,

It does leave a sheen. I am mainly using it when I am active (bike riding, running etc) so it looks natural. But if your skin is a bit oily and you don't want that shine it probably won't be your best choice. I remember I tried another sunblock last year that I also liked called Neutrogena (soft or light touch, something like that)spf 55 that went on matte. I'm sorry I can't remember the exact name and I was just looking all over the house for it and can't find it but it was Neutrogena and had an spf of 55 and if I can find the name I'll report back.

Best wishes,
Melissa

Hi all,

I would recommend wholeheartedly Citrix Antioxidant Sunscreen SPF 30!

(for example: http://www.dermstore.com/product_Citrix+Antioxidant+Sunscreen+SPF+30_3993.htm)

I think this was first recommended by *uh-oh* "dr." Nase, and the recommendation proved to be more genuine than some of the later stuff he discussed Wink

I love this stuff and don't go anywhere without it during summer. It is zinc-oxide based and I found it to be very soothing and non-irritative, however it does leave somewhat whiteish hue if applied generously (for a while at least), but so do all untinted physical sunscreens I guess. And it's "only" SPF 30 so it might not be enough if you are extremely sun-sensitive.

I have perm. redness and flushing with sensitive skin but no p&p's

www.coolibar.com

You might be able to find it cheaper, but thats were my derm recommended I get it.

Hope you find what you need!

Thanks Melissa. Did it irritate your skin at all?

What about the moisturizing cream in the line? Have you tried that or any other products they offer? I find that moisturzers for rosacea skin leave the skin feeling dry after the faced is washed.

Hi Flemmo,
No, the Neutrogena spf55 soft touch sunblock was good but I prefer something that is more moist vs matte and that's why I went with Vanicream instead. My face is on the dry side so I stay away from matte products.

I have only ever used the Vanicream sensitive spf 60 sunblock in the vanicream line. I never tried any of the moisturizers. My all time favorite moisturizer is Eucerin original dry skin therapy moisturizing cream and lotion. That is all I use in terms of moisturizers.

I think the Neutogena suncreen is called Ultra Sheet dry touch sunblock spf 55. The ingredients are homosalate, oxybenzone, avobenzone, and octocrylene. It find it too drying so I mix it with some of aveno for sensitive skin and apply.

Does the original line give you moisture. Maybe it is the combo of MEtro creme I am using with the Redness Relief Eucerin Line that isn't working.

Hi Sdavis,

The Eucerin original moisturizing dry skin therapy creme and lotion are excellent moisturizers. My skin is on the dry side and it really helps soothe and moisturize my skin. In the winter I apply the creme several times a day. It makes your face a bit shiny but it absorbs pretty well.

Best wishes,
Melissa
