On mornings when my face looks its best (not much redness), my skin will not even be dry and flakey. I usually skin moisturizer all together after showering. I want to leave it "as is", since it is looking good.
Is this a bad idea? I am thinking I should probably still go ahead and moisturize. even if the moisturizer makes me slightly red for a while.
thoughts? |

Hi HRH,
Your moisturizer really shouldn't make you red. Does it sting? A moisturizer should be soothing and calming to your face and not irritating in the slightest. If you have dry skin I find it best to moisturize before and after the shower. That way it gets absorbed into the skin more efficiently. I would recommend finding a moisturizer that is gentle for you and does not sting or make you red.
Best wishes,

| it doesn't sting at all. I use cetaphil lotion. just the act of rubbing lotion in, causes the skin to redden. you know, brings blood to the area. that is what I mean by "makes it red". |

| OK. Try to gently apply the moisturizing lotion so you don't irritate your face. I know a lot of people like Cetaphil. I think it's good to apply right after the shower to lock in the moisturizer. As I wrote previously I apply moisturizer before and after the shower but my skin tends to be dry, especially in the wintertime. |

I have started doing this recently and find it does help lock in moisture a little better. I put moisturizer (CeraVe) on before my shower and then wash my face after I get out of the shower. I try not to let any water run on my face while I'm in the shower.
HRH-
I know what you mean about rubbing and turning red. It drives me crazy! I wake up looking fairly pale and once I wash my face and put moisturizer on the redness returns. I have tried putting it on and then waiting about fifteen minutes before putting makeup on. That way it calms back down a little. |

Gently patt your face all over with moisturizer....never "rub" it in....I know patting will take a few minutes but it is very effective and will not cause redness....also, some find that the shower causes flushing and when you get out if you put the moisturize on right away you lock in the "heat" that is still in the skin. Lotion is known to lock in "warmth"....I usually leave my face wet and walk around for a minute or two with a damp/wet face....just allowing time for "cooling' of the skin...then "pat" with towel and "pat" in lotion...my face is very very sensitive and trapping in heat is a no no for me. I have the same problem forever. Every time I put on lotion my face turns red. I don't know why I didn't think of another way to apply the lotion. Thank you for this suggestion. I will start doing this tomorrow! |
