I just wanted to give an update on my experimentation with Tea Tree Oil.
I've been using Tea Tree Oil, diluted with Jojoba Oil, for many months now on my face, eyes, ears and neck. I am still very happy with the results. TTO is an anti-fungal essential oil. It's one of the most common essential oils to use for fungal problems (what many people call seb derm). It also seems to help with demodex.
The number of times a week I use it, and the strength of the solution I mix up, depends on where I'm treating and the condition of my skin at the time.
On my ears, I use a mixture of about 2 drops TTO to 6 drops JO. My ear flushing is totally gone now. After years of my ears flushing everyday, it is a wonderful relief to have this symptom under control. I use the TTO/JO mixture on my ears only once or twice a week now.
On my face, I use a weaker mixture, about 1 drop of TTO to 15-20 drops of JO (I use the excess for my neck/chest/hands). As my face is very sensitive, I use it only one time per week, sometimes less. I also put it all over my eyelids/lashes. My facial flushing has reduced from using TTO/JO (although I still flush everyday). My occular symptoms have also reduced.
I just came across this study for reducing occular symptoms by killing demodex with TTO. I've read it before, and it probably has been posted before, but thought I would post it here. It mirrors my results with TTO reducing occular symptoms:

Here is the conclusion of the study:
"Conclusions: Demodex is resistant to a wide range of antiseptic solutions. Weekly lid scrub with 50% TTO and daily lid scrub with tea tree shampoo is effective in eradicating ocular Demodex."
There are many things which are anti-fungal and can reduce the seb derm side of Rosacea. And it's nice to see from the above study that it is a proven demodex killer. TTO is just something I have found to work for me. If you try it, go slowly and patch test. It will not suit everyone's skin.

| I had developed a really itchy scalp and the special shampoos were not working. I finally bought an organic TTO shampoo and have been really happy with the results. Hardly any itching. It does work! |

| I don't know why sometimes I can tolerate tea tree oil, and other times I find the smallest amount irritating. A few years ago I mixed a drop into my sunscreen every morning and it felt really good and my skin looked great during this time...I forget why I stopped doing this, but I recently tried mixing a drop of tea tree oil into my jojoba oil (my night moisturizer) and tested it on my forehead and my skin got really dry and scaly-feeling after a few days of this...I wish I could use it again because I feel I have demodex and I now know I have seb. derm. and I really want to eradicate the yeasts/demodex. |
