| Hi everyone,
So I went to the immunologist today and was prescribed Rhinocort (a steriod based nasal powder). When I asked the dr if this would potentially effect my rosacea he said no. I`m not convinced this is true and i`m wondering if anyone else has used this powder inhaler? _________________ 25, Subtype 1 |

| Hi,
I haven't used it but read somewhere that it it best to thouroughly rinse your nose and the surrounding area after inhaling, to make sure nothing gets to your face. Some people prefer nasal sprays like nasalcrom (do a search in the archives) over steroid based nasal sprays because it CAN affect your rosacea. I don't know about powders though. | Sorry, I don't often post these types of messages but I know a lot of people come to these boards to simply read for information.
As for the assertion that steroid nasal sprays CAN have an effect on Rosacea , is there some evidence being offered to support that claim? Having allergies myself and being a user (from time to time) of such sprays, I researched this issue thoroughly. The only study I could find linking nasal sprays to any skin problem was a study on a specific dermatitis whose only common link appeared to be that each of the people who got it used a steroid nasal spray. This study reported that each person presented with the exact same distribution, a very red erythema around the mouth (concentrated significantly on the upper lip) with a papupustular eruption. Note this distribution is inconsistent with Rosacea which almost never appears on the upper lip (the only area I have been spared it). Conclusion, users were not using the spray properly, that is they were not putting the applicator into the nasal cavity allowing the spray to contact and sit on the skin. Daily use over a very long time also seemed to be required. If you put the applicator in your nose you should be fine. My dad who also has Rosacea (which he developed long before he used a steroid nasal spray) has used such a spray for 5 years, it has had no effect on his Rosacea. It has also not caused me any problems. I would welcome anyone with scientific evidence to post same here if this is incorrect. Why should allergy sufferers with Rosacea suffer because some people instantly react with panic whenever the word "steroid" is used. You have to do what you are comfortable with, but I would be surprised if a single dermatologist would tell you that steroid nasal sprays are counterindicated for Rosacea. |

Sorry, just try to help here and offer alternatives. I have no scientific evidence for my statement but I read the info I was talking about on this site: http://rosacea-support.org/rynacrom-nasalcrom-vs-beconase.html Do with it whatever you want.
