Hi there,

Has anyone experience with topical Erythromycin products?

I've been using such a product (Eryacne in France) for 8 weeks. It was supposed to help me fight p&p, but I've actually never had so many ones on my face.

As I've also experienced stressful change in my life over the last weeks (new home, new job, ...), I do not want to dismiss the treatment, which may not be responsible, and make things worse. Also, my eyes condition has deteriorated a bit recently, while I have almost no skin redness (crazy rosacea.....).

In addition to to this topical Erythromycin, I am using rosacream and oral doxycycline.

Thanks to anyone who has experience to share on this.

Hi,

I used this too, in the past with succes, for treating acne. Now I have rosacea, I've found it too harsh on my skin, since it contains alcohol and is too drying for me.

How long have you been taking the doxy? You should see some effect after at least 4 weeks. It should also be of some benefit for your occular rosacea. If you have many p&p's I would recommend Finacea, this really works for me.

Good luck!

I also used this product but found it too harsh on my skin. After speaking with a pharmacist I learned that erythromycin (which exists as a powder at room temperature) is an extremely insoluable powder. They need to dilute it in alcohol to get it into the skin. Therefore every topical erythromycin product has alcohol in it. Very rough of Rosacean skin. I know studies have compared the efficacy of topical eryth. 2% to that of metronizadole 1% favourably.

I don't know if Noritate is available in France, but it is metronizadole 1% in a non-irritating base (no alcohol).

Hi,

Thanks for your messages!

It encouraged me to try a brand new bottle of this erythromycin solution, and it is a bit more efficient. The former one was two months old and it seems it had lost its capacities.
I agree that it can be a bit harsh, but used cautiously and very locally, my skin is supporting it rather well.

Sadly, I have already been under doxycycline + a metronizadole cream (rozex/rosacream) for 7+ months, and while it has improved my skin overall redness and discomfort, I am still getting a lot of p&p. I will think about switching to Finacea.
