I'm going to see how far topicals and oral treatments take me, but I'd like to get some info on these treatments...
A few questions:
I'm 17 and have mild redness in the "mask" shape (been here for a few weeks, comes and goes, but there's always at least a bit of pink... It feels like inflammation), flushing, and pimples. I think these meds might fix the pimple problem, as that's improving, but even so, which treatment would be most effective for these problems? Which is generally cheaper? Which usually requires fewest treatments?
Thank you. |

| My derm gave me Oracea, Clindamycin topical, and Plexion Cleanser a week or two ago. My symptoms have been getting worse the past week, though (increased tenderness in face, to the point I can't smile, some small, swollen capillaries, redness moving to other areas of face, eye "tenderness", light bruising on lips). Last time I saw my derm, she seemed a bit irritable that I came in twice in three weeks, but with new symptoms every week or so, I don't know what else to do. Now, I think I'd rather get some info on different treatments for the redness/flushing/pimples, then ask maybe a different derm about it. I just don't want to wait for these topicals to work when every week is showing increased inflammation... From what I've heard, these might help, but I really doubt they'll make a major difference on anything but the pimples. I can't see them really getting a handle on redness/flushing. I'll of course wait longer, but if things keep getting worse, I'll have to incorporate a different kind of treatment, I think. |

Some of those symptoms sound like you may be suffering a reaction to some of the meds. Bruising and tenderness to the extent you describe are not typical of rosacea.
My advice would be to go back to your doctor in case you are allergic to something. In the meantime I wonder if you might benefit from antihistamine tablets.
I see that you have posted this in the laser section but I'm not sure if this is the advice you require or whether it would be best moved to the general section. |

My mom thought it sounded like an allergic reaction, as well. I have an appointment with my general practitioner tomorrow, so I'll see what he says. The only thing I'm taking orally is Oracea... If it's an allergic reaction, I can't think of what else it would be...
The bruising in my lips looks like small, dilated capillaries. The capillaries in my eyes also look a little more noticeable, which is why I thought both problems were Rosacea related. I've never heard of it progressing this quickly, though. |

Those photos show dramatic improvements. I would think that this is partly due to the fact that they appear to have messed around with the colour tone on the photos to maximise redness in the before photos and minimise it in the second.
I would say that although improvements are seen with lasers it is better to be realisitic. Surface redness can be hard to get rid of completly. |

I would have to concur with Phlika. I think those photos are ATYPICAL of reasonable expectations- about the same as the weight loss commercials or work out equipment. It's not my money or my business but if your derm even made you feel the least bit uncomfortable why not get a second opinion from another derm?
Good luck. |
