Yes thats right, it isn't one that you can buy for home. It is a more powerful one.

Given this scenario, I fear the trial may prove inconclusive.

Hello

Well let’s not call this trial a failure before it’s even started!

For me it’s a big positive that Tony is going to all the trouble and expensive of arranging it and he wouldn’t do this unless he felt the felt the positive effects of red light with rosacea were worth investigating. Indeed I know there have been previous attempts to arrange a trial but for a variety of reasons they never materialised, so personally I am excited that finally after nearly 8 years something is going to happen.

The ideal situation would be to give everybody their own lamp and allow them to use it daily at home but that’s not practical, as is asking volunteers to travel daily to Hammersmith Hospital for their sessions over many weeks. I assume he has a budget for the trial and he has obviously decided that he can obtain results from rosacea patients being exposed to 20 minutes sessions twice weekly from a more powerful device. Bearing in mind he was involved in the original acne lamp trial then I think we should be confident in his expertise with this format.

Watch this I suppose.

Thanks

Peter

Hello Sarah

Yes it would be great if you could get an update when you see him in July. I don’t see him as a patient now but I will drop him a quick e mail later and see if there is anything that can be reported regarding the trial.

Thanks

Peter

I have been to see Dr Chu again and whilst I was there I asked when the RLT will start.

Dr Chu told me that the trial is due to start when he returns from his summer holidays as he felt that it would be better to wait until after they were out of the way.

Hello Sarah

Many thanks for asking the question and I did write to him about the same thing last week but he hasn't responded yet. It's very frustrating because I had hoped the trial would be well underway by now, especially as the Ethics side of it had been cleared. As you know shortly the UK goes into semi-shutdown with the main holiday period so I suppose better to wait until everyone involved is available.

I will contact him again later in August for an update but Tony is not always the easiest guy to get hold of. Hope your appointment went well.

Thanks

Peter

Is there any new info about Dr. Chu's RLT research?

Thanks,
Melissa

Hello Melissa

I only returned from holiday myself at the weekend so I haven't written to him yet but will do by the weekend. I know two people who have appointments with him in September and October, so if necessary I will see if they can ask for updates on the trial.

Thanks

Peter

I have just had another consultation with Dr Chu. He said that the red light therapy trial was still on hold as he has been very busy at work. He has had to take over another dermatology department in separate London hospital as well as putting in bids to run community centre based health care (as per the goverment new plans). I got the impression it wouldn't be happening any time soon.
