Another question...I know some of us experience flushing on our ears. One thing I have noticed is that every time my ears flush, I can feel a certain rather large blood vessell on the back side of each ear . It literally sticks out it becomes so dialated. This vessell I can not fell when not flushing. Do others with ear flushing have this same problem?
I also would be curious to know if perhaps we could just close off this vessell? It seems to feed the outside of the ear. I know for myself my ears always flush first and are much more likely to have that burning sensation than the rest of my face. I can't even wear headphones for more that 10 minutes without my ears becoming very hot and red. |

| I don't feel a vessel with ear flushing, but just in the last few days, I feel a vessel on the side of my nose bridge that I am sure is feeding my left eyelid. The inner part of my left eyelid has been a problem for a long time. Destroying these vessels with IPL should be possible. |

Hello. I also get the nasty ear flushing alot. My ears are much more prone to flushing and burning than the rest of my face, but I don't feel any vein... Regarding your question, I think only a doctor can answer for sure. If it's an important vein, then zapping would be a no-no. I do have a problem with a "pulsing" vein on the side of my nose though, like irishgenes....

Hi Adrian,
Is it a vein (blue) or an artery (red). If its a vein, then in most cases you can remove it without any problems. The 1064 YAG is still the best for these large suckers. If its an artery, you probably still are safe because most areas of tissue are supplied by multiple arteries, so removal of one should not cause a backlash. They can measure the blood flow and trace the artery with several non-invasive machines to double check. I had this done when I had a clot in my arm vein after multiple blood draws.
Something to think about. I also had the pulsating nose, but it was the entire nose. _________________ Geoffrey

| My ears flush bright red too, most especially after a shower. I'm being tx with Genesis but my doc has never heard of treating ears before and doesn't know what settings to use for them. I didn't have much luck getting this info from any other source. I know Dr Nase has posted setting for treating ears with IPL but my doc doesn't have IPL, so if anyone knows how a doc can go about treating them with Genesis I'd love to hear of it. |

Hi Bihi,
Not that you want to be a guinea pig, but you can treat the ears with the YAG if you tweak the settings a little bit. I dont want to give out settings for the ear because I dont know how thick your skin is and how tough your cartilage is. Your physician can try some passes with the most conservative settings. Based on the settings your doc is using for the most sensitive places on your face, he/she can lower the joules and pulse duration to make sure the treatment stays superficial on the ears and energy levels low. Then see how they respond and make the proper adjustments. Err on conservative. You are right -- most that I know use IPL on the ears. I have yet to hear of anyone using pulse dye on the ears (side note -- anyone out there?). _________________ Geoffrey

| Thanks for that but just to be on the safe side since they don't flush often I might leave it till I get some more IPL's done where at least the settings are more tried and tested. |
